Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- Winning Southland Conference series usually takes adjustments, and the Northwestern State softball team proved they can change midstream.

One day after being no-hit by Sam Houston State pitcher Lindsay McLeod, the Lady Demons tagged the reigning SLC Pitcher of the Week for five runs en route to a 6-3 win.

"Our hitters made great adjustments," said NSU coach
Donald Pickett, whose Lady Demons won their opening SLC series for the second straight year. "For us to have the kind of day we did Friday and then come back today and do something different, I'm proud of these girls.

"We swung at the right pitches, and we hit (three) doubles. We grew up a lot this weekend in losing Friday's game the way we did, coming back to win in 10 innings late Friday and then lead from the start today."

NSU pitcher
E.C. Delafield helped herself at the plate as her bases-loaded single scored two runs to cap a three-run, third inning.

Junior
Kaitlyn St. Clair started the scoring earlier in the frame with an RBI single, scoring junior
Elise Vincent as NSU (9-13, 2-1 SLC) ended the inning up 3-0.

That's just about all Delafield (2-1) needed as she held SHSU (8-14, 1-2 SLC) scoreless in her first six innings.

Down 6-0, the Bearkats rallied in the seventh inning to score three runs, but reliever
Samantha Guile battled to hold the SHSU at bay and seal the win and series victory.

Delafield picked up her second-ever SLC win and first when she started the game. The Stonewall native allowed three runs on eight hits, three of which came in the seventh inning.

"Delafield pitched a great game for us and set the tone," Pickett said. "Our girls are learning that you can want something, but they understand that you have to fight and work for it.

"We didn't play perfect in either of our wins, but when we have the fight and energy that we played with, we can be a really good team."

NSU scored its other three runs in the fifth inning.

Freshman
Riley Cantrell doubled in two runs to finish the scoring after sophomore
Cayla Jones singled in junior
Hayley Barbazon, who led off with her team-high fifth double.

Jones (2-for-3, RBI) and Cantrell (2-for-3, 2 RBIs) produced their fifth and second multi-hit games of the season, respectively.

McLeod was pulled after Jones' RBI single, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits. After striking out 11 in Friday's win, McLeod struck out just three batters and walked two Saturday.

NSU opens its SLC home schedule this coming weekend with Abilene Christian. The Lady Demons will play a Friday doubleheader at 4 p.m. with a Saturday finale at 1 p.m.
