DENTON, Texas -- Northwestern State softball erased two Seton Hall leads Saturday, but the Pirates mustered a final surge in a 5-3 Lady Demons on the second day of North Texas Mean Green Classic action.
Â
NSU (2-5) clawed back from deficits of 1-0 and 3-1, but the Pirates scored two fifth-inning runs that proved to be the difference.
Â
SHU (4-4) broke a 3-3 tie with two fifth-inning runs, regaining the lead for good on a Payton Beaver two-run home run for a 5-3 edge. Darby Pandolfo doubled to put a runner aboard as SHU had four extra base hits in the first five innings. SHU finished with 11 total hits.

After pitching three scoreless innings to help NSU rally, reliever
Samantha Guile (0-4) received the loss with two runs allowed on six hits in four innings.
Â
Down 3-1, NSU tied the game with runs in the third and fifth innings.
Â
The Lady Demons took advantage of one of three Seton Hall errors as

Â
NSU tied the game in the fifth inning with a Cantrell RBI ground out.
Cayla Jones scored after she doubled earlier in the inning.
Â
Jones (2-for-4) and

But NSU stranded eight runners, including a pair in scoring position in the first inning.
Â
A pair of Seton Hall doubles put the Pirates on the board first. Pandolfo doubled in Janae Barracato, who led off with the game with a double, for a 1-0 edge.
Â
NSU got that run back as
E.C. Delafield scored on an
Elise Vincent RBI in the second inning for a 1-1 tie. Delafield posted her second career triple (her first was just more than one calendar year ago) and NSU's second triple of the season. It was Vincent's first RBI of the season.
Â
But the Pirates ended NSU pitcher
Bronte Rhoden's first career start early, chasing her in the second inning.
Â
SHU drew a walk and a single with no outs in the second inning to bring in the reliever Guile.
Â
The Pirates' duo of Barracato (bases loaded sacrifice fly) and Pandolfo (RBI single) handed SHU a 3-1 lead.
Â
Rhoden was credited with three runs on three hits and two walks in an inning in the no-decision.
Â
Pandolfo went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a double.
