NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State junior sprinter Natashia Jackson was voted Southland Conference Female Track Athlete of the Week in the third week of indoor track and field awards Wednesday.

The Houston native has had an excellent first half to the 2019 indoor season but claimed her first taste of gold this past Saturday at the Pittsburg State Invitational in the 400 meter dash with a time of 55.11, a new Southland season high. She also came in second as part of the 4x400 relay (3:47.98).

Jackson also leads the conference with the best 200 of 24.32, a mark she set at the Ted Nelson Invitational on Jan. 11th.

The honor comes as no surprise considering Jackson's 2018 seasons were highly decorated. Along with a slew of weekly awards, she finished first on 11 different occasions across four different events including the 2018 SLC champion in the 400 (indoor and outdoor), 4x100 relay (indoor), and the 4x400 relay (indoor and outdoor).

The NSU track and field teams are in action once again this Friday at the LSU Bayou Bengal meet in Baton Rouge.
