Jessica Coleman is a middle-distance runner who is graduating with a degree in biology and nursing in December. After completing her undergraduate degree at NSU, she aspires to be a neonatal nurse. Coleman was sixth in the Southland Indoor Championships in the 800 and fifth at last year's Outdoor Championships in the same event. Coleman is from Houma and attended H.L. Bourgeois High School. Coleman came to NSU from Garden City Community College.

"Grandma Jess (Jessica's nickname) came to us from junior college and shared the same coach as me. She didn't run that well in junior college, so it's very gratifying to see Jessica have the success she has had at Northwestern State, being in range of breaking the school record of 2:11.38. She's been a fun person to work with. She hasn't had anyone to train her before coming here, so it was great for her to have a group of people to train with. I am going to be very sad to lose her. She's a fun one."Â
