NATCHITOCHES—Adjusting perfectly to interim head coach
Patric DuBois, the Northwestern State tennis team broke its three-match losing streak Friday at Southern Miss with plans to start a different kind of streak Monday at SMU.
SMU (2-3) fell to its last two competitors University of Iowa (4-2) and University of Central Florida (5-1) to 5-2 and 6-1 losses, respectively.
The Lady Demons came up short in their last three contests against SMU.
"We expect to compete well," interim head coach
Patric DuBois said. "We hope to find a way to get four points or more and come home with a victory."
The match begins at 5:30 p.m., and fans can follow the action on
Live Stats.
"We're competing well in practice, working very hard and doing things well," DuBois said. "We hope to transition those things into our match-play."
Inclement weather, a coaching change and injuries posed adversity as NSU started the season with a 0-3 record.
DuBois assuming interim head coaching duties the past two matches after working with the team this fall means there wasn't a difficult transition.
"I'm very comfortable with these ladies," DuBois said.
"We're all on the same page with the way we do things, the way they do things. We're ready to go."
DuBois has been a friendly and familiar face on the Lady Demon tennis court for years. He was the head coach from 1989-94 and from 2006-14 and before assuming interim duties this fall DuBois has also been assistant coach since 2014 under former head coach Olga Bazahanova.
The Lady Demons (1-3) clinched their first season-victory at Southern Miss on Friday with a 5-2 win.
