FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas – The Northwestern State women's 4x400 relay team rolled across in record time Saturday at the Arkansas Tyson Invitational indoor track and field meet, running the best mark in Southland Conference history, 3:41.76.
The group of De'Shalyn Jones, Natashia Jackson, Widline Lageroy, and Deja Moore finished fourth behind LSU (3:35.00), Purdue (3:38.36), and Iowa (3:41.39).
Jackson also competed in the 200, finishing 16th with a time of 23.99, which ranks first in the Southland. Jackson is now the number one sprinter in the conference in both the 200 and 400 (54.30).
Jones finished 24.10 in the 200, which puts her in second place in the SLC, behind Jackson.
NSU competitors Micah Larkins and Jasmyn Steels had noteworthy performances for the second straight day.
Larkins ran second in a fleet 200 final with a time of 21.29.
A day after finishing second in the women's long jump, Steels took fifth in the triple jump with a 38-9 mark.
Quanese Jones-Young and Ceaser Stephens both had podium appearances for NSU Saturday.
Jones-Young was second in the high jump by clearing 5-8 ¾, a personal record for her. Stephens finished third with an indoor personal record of 50-11 ½ in the triple jump.
Transfer Michael McGruder ran a career best 21.45 in the 200, taking seventh.
NSU's Quindarrius Thompson was eighth in the triple jump (50-2 ½).
Also this weekend, NSU competed two hours to the north in the Pittsburg State (Kansas) Gorilla Invitational, which was also a two-day meet, and had some success there across the board Saturday.
Tre' Evans took fifth in the men's high jump (6-7 ½). Jasmine Dansby ran 2:21.14 for eighth in the women's 800.
The Demons and Lady Demons take next weekend off, preparing for the Southland Conference Indoor Championships Feb. 21-22 in Birmingham, Alabama.
