COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Northwestern State competitors collected six wins including four meet record performances Friday, with the Demons winning the men's team scoring chase, as the indoor track and field season launched with the Ted Nelson Invitational hosted by Texas A&M.

All-America sprinters
Amir James and
Micah Larkins swept the men's 60 and 200 meter dash titles, with NSU pulling a podium sweep in the 200, finishing 1-2-3 along with taking sixth and eighth. Larkins (6.72) and James (21.20 in the 200) broke meet records.

NSU junior
Ceaser Stephens had an indoor personal best of 50-4 3/4, also a meet record, to win the men's triple jump.

In the women's long jump, Lady Demons sophomore
Jasmyn Steels finished first in her hometown, soaring 19-9 ½ for a meet record. Another victory by NSU in women's competition came from senior
Daeshon Gordon, rolling to an 8.42 time in the 60 meter hurdles.

The Lady Demons, who swept the Southland Conference 4x400 meter relay titles indoors and outdoors in 2017, dominated the day's final race, blistering the closest finisher by over five seconds with a 3:47.40 time in the 4x4 from freshman

The Demons won a 14-team men's division by posting 80 points, edging UL Lafayette (79 ½). Sam Houston was third with 73 points.

Among 13 women's teams, NSU was third at 77 points, topped only by SHSU (98 ½) and Louisiana Tech (80).

In a noteworthy performance, Demon junior
Brandon Lewis-Graham clocked the second-fastest 3000 meter run in school history, posting an 8:52.01 time as he finished sixth in the race. The school record is 8:41.83 by Josh Wilkins in 2015. Senior
Marquise Foster also zoomed to second place in school history with a 59-1 ½ mark in the men's weight throw, finishing fourth. The school record is 61-4 ¾ by Daniel Yarbrough in 2009.
