LAFAYETTE -- The Northwestern State tennis team pushed three singles matches to three sets Wednesday, but Lamar captured all three of those sets as the Lady Demons fell 6-1.
 
The match, originally scheduled in Beaumont earlier this month, was moved to UL Lafayette because of rain.
 
Freshman Judit Castillo logged NSU's (11-6, 4-3 Southland Conference) point in the No. 5 singles spot, topping Talisa Merchiers 6-0, 6-2.
 
Castillo completed her singles' match first, tying the score 1-1 after Lamar won the doubles tiebreaker with two doubles wins.
 
Junior Polina Ivanova and sophomore Polina Mutel captured NSU's only doubles win with a 6-3 victory over Katya Lapayeva/Anna Spengler.
 
The Cardinals took the doubles point with wins by Jasmin Buchta/Sanja Jolic over Iryna Vardanian/Castillo (6-3) and Merchiers/Hanna Elfving over Emilija Dancetovic/Kateryna Avram (6-2).
 
Vardanian, Dancetovic and Avram each took their opponents to three sets in singles' play.
 
Vardanian dominated the first set before losing the final two to Lapayeva (2-6, 6-1, 6-4) in the No. 1 slot.
 
Dancetovic also won her first set 6-3 before losing the second set 6-4 and retiring in the third set trailing 1-0 in the No. 4 spot.
 
Avram forced a third set against Elfving before losing 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 in the No. 6 position.
 
Lamar remains tied in the loss column for the conference lead with Abilene Christian and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
 
NSU returns home to host ACU on Saturday at 11 a.m.
