NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern State women's tennis team, faced with a quick turnaround following their first win of the season, plays a pair of home matches over the weekend.
The Lady Demons (1-3) raced to a 4-0 win in 1:48 over UL Lafayette (1-2) on Thursday afternoon. The quick clinch could prove to be vital with Southern Mississippi (3-2) and Louisiana Tech (3-3) on the docket for Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
The Lady Demons and the Golden Eagles are coming off 4-0 sweeps of ULL.
USM and La Tech visit the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex with a combined 1-5 road record.
Sophomore
Iryna Vardanian carries a team-best two-match win streak into the weekend, including picking up the third team point against ULL in the No. 2 singles position.
One of the stars of Thursday, freshman
Vladislava Litvinova will aim to show her dominating performance in doubles and singles was not a fluke. Seemingly entrenched in the No. 5 singles position for now, she will likely face freshman Tjasa Jerse (3-1) from Southern Miss and the Bulldogs' junior Alba Escalona Perny (2-3).
Play will begin Saturday morning at 11 a.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Admission to all home tennis matches are free.
