DALLAS – Northwestern State settled for a split of its challenging Metroplex weekend, with a No. 3 doubles victory by
Aliona Ladutska and
Emily Kerr the highlight Sunday in a 6-0 women's tennis defeat to unbeaten SMU.
Ladutska/Kerr prevailed 7-5 over Anna Kate Anderson and Mary Wright, but SMU had already clinched the doubles point. The Mustangs (4-0) posted straight-set wins in singles play, except at No. 5, where
Polina Ivanova was a set up at 7-6 (8-6) when play was halted so NSU (1-4) could begin travel to home ahead of potentially wintry weather.
"It was a good match," said Lady Demons' coach
Olga Bazhanova, whose team won 4-3 Saturday at North Texas. "We had a plenty of good rallies, but SMU's players were more consistent and hit big shots in tough points.
"It was overall a pretty good weekend and we are positive about our upcoming matches."
The Lady Demons will stay on the road next weekend, facing former Southland Conference rivals Texas State and UT-San Antonio.
