NATCHITOCHES – Holding steady near the top of the Southland Conference standings, the Northwestern State tennis team hosts its final three matches of the regular season in a span of five days, starting with Lamar on Friday at 11:00, followed by Sam Houston State, also at 11:00, on Saturday and a make-up match with Southeastern on Tuesday beginning at 10:00, all at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex.
Saturday's dual with the Lady Lions is also senior day where the Lady Demons (15-5 overall, 8-1 SLC) will honor lone senior
Polina Konop on her efforts and contribution to the NSU tennis team.
Northwestern State split matches last weekend, defeating Nicholls 5-2 and falling to McNeese in a 4-3 nail-biter on Saturday, which marked the team's first league loss of the season.
Lamar (7-12, 4-6) went 2-1 last week, picking up wins over Sam Houston and Oral Roberts while falling to conference newcomer Abilene Christian.
The Bearkats (4-11, 2-8) claimed their second win of the Southland season over Incarnate Word on Friday, but were handed losses from the Wildcats and Nicholls over the weekend.
Last season, the Lady Demons fell to Lamar 4-3, and defeated Sam Houston with the same score.
The Southland Conference Tournament, hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, begins on Thursday, April 24, in Corpus Christi, Texas. NSU has already claimed a spot in the tournament, but will not receive a seed until the conclusion of the regular season on Tuesday.
