Lady Demons pick up seventh win in a row with victories over UCA, Arkansas Tech

CONWAY, Ark. – The Northwestern State tennis team extended its win streak to seven with a pair of victories over Southland Conference foe Central Arkansas and Division II opponent Arkansas Tech, both 6-1, at the Central Arkansas Tennis Courts on Sunday.
 
The Lady Demons improve to 9-3 overall, 2-0 in the Southland as UCA and the Golden Suns fall to 7-4, 0-1 and 5-2, respectively.
 
"We're really happy with the start to the conference season, especially after getting two league wins this weekend," said head coach Patric DuBois. "We had two strong matches today and look to use them as fuel for our coming contests.
 
Winning all three doubles slots with scores of 8-1, NSU got off to a quick start against Arkansas Tech. Polina Konop and Tatiana Larina took the No. 1 spot, followed by Natalya Krutova and Kateryna Piatakova at second doubles, and Petya Simeonova and Amy Williams rounding out with the win at No. 3.
 
The Lady Demons took all but one of the singles positions as Larina dropped the only decision at No. 1 to Nozomi Matsuoka 6-4, 6-3.
 
Simonova and Williams notched fifth and sixth singles with scores of 7-5, 6-3 and 6-1, 6-3, respectively. Ladutska and Simonova battled at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, but pulled out the wins 6-3, 7-6, and 7-6, 2-6, 10-7.
 
Piatakova took third singles 6-4, 6-1, followed by Williams at No. 6 defeating Laura Sanchez 6-1, 6-3.
 
Against UCA, the Lady Demons captured the doubles point with wins from Konop and Larina at the No. 1 slot, 8-6, followed by Krutova and Piatakova claiming second doubles in a tight 8-7 match with Kristina Horsikyan and Cassidy Crawford.
 
Ladutska and Simonova fell at No. 3 doubles 8-5 to Simona Horsikyan and Krizia Buck, but both bounced back for wins in singles.
 
Ladutska took fourth singles in the tiebreaker over K. Horsikyan 6-3, 5-7, 10-5, while Simonova coasted to the win at No. 6 singles at 6-1, 6-1.
 
Krutova also went to the tiebreaker at third singles, claiming the win with scores of 3-6, 6-2, 6-0.
 
Konop and Larina notched the top two singles spots, respectively. Konop defeated S. Horsikyan 6-3, 7-3, while Larina took down Kelsey Williams 6-4, 6-3.
 
Piatakova dropped the only loss in singles for NSU, falling in the tiebreak in the No. 5 slot, 7-6, 5-7, 10-6.
 
The Lady Demons return home on Saturday and Sunday for conference matches with Incarnate Word and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, respectively. Both duals are slated to begin at 11:00 at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex.
