RUSTON – A 7-0 shutout from Louisiana Tech snapped an 11-match win-streak for the Northwestern State tennis team Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at the Louisiana Tech Tennis Complex.
 
The Lady Demons lost just their fourth match of the season to move to 13-4 overall, while the Lady Techsters improved to 14-4.
 
"While a 7-0 loss is not the norm for us, we played solid in most positions," said head coach Patric DuBios. "We had quite a few matches that were very competitive, and Louisiana Tech outplayed us during the big points. Louisiana Tech has a very good team and they played very well to earn a win in each position."
 
Natalya Krutova and Kateryna Piatakova fell at second doubles 8-5, followed by Amy Williams and Daniela Simonova dropping No. 3 with the same score. Polina Konop and Tatiana Larina left first doubles unfinished with a 6-5 lead.
 
Williams finished first in singles at the No. 5 slot with a 6-3, 6-0 loss. Konop and Petya Simeonova finished next with scores of 6-3, 6-2 and 6-3, 7-5, respectively. Krutova battled at third singles, but dropped a 6-3, 7-5 decision.
 
Piatakova and Larina both battled hard at fourth and second singles, respectively. Piatakova dropped the first set 7-5 and bounced back with a 6-1 second set, but fell in the tiebreaker 1-0 (10-5). Larina played a similar script, but took the first game 7-6 (7-5), and dropped the second 6-4 and lost in the tiebreaker 1-0 (11-9).

"I thought we competed very well, and we learned a lot of good things today," said DuBois. "We will be ready to play very well next weekend when we continue conference play."
 
Northwestern State will host Southland Conference newcomer New Orleans and Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, at 11:00 on both days at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex.
