Lady Demons set to face SFA, Louisiana Tech this weekend

3/28/2014 3:51:00 PM

NATCHITOCHES – Riding a ten-match win-streak, the Northwestern State tennis team hosts Southland Conference rival Stephen F. Austin Saturday at 11:00 at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex before heading to in-state rival Louisiana Tech on Sunday for a one o'clock start in Ruston.

The NSU marketing staff will be providing food and beverages prior to the start of the SFA dual, so fans are encouraged to arrive early and select a seat in the complex.

The Lady Demons (12-3 overall, 5-0 SLC) won a gutsy 4-3 battle over the Ladyjacks (8-6, 4-1) during the 2013 regular season and took a 4-1 win in the first round of the Southland Conference Tournament. The two squads meet for the 28th time in history as NSU leads the all-time series 18-9.

Also leading the series with the Lady Techsters (13-4) 35-7, the Lady Demons dropped a 4-3 decision to LA Tech in 2013, facing them just one time last season in the long-standing tradition between the two schools.

Northwestern State competed once last week, taking a 4-3 victory from Abilene Christian in Abilene, Texas, on Friday to continue the program's second longest winning streak. The longest came in the 2010 season when the Lady Demons won 19 in a row, claiming the regular season and Southland Conference Tournament title for a berth to the NCAA Tournament.

SFA defeated the Wildcats on Saturday with the same score as NSU, picking up their fifth win in six matches.

The Lady Techsters shutout Jackson State 7-0 on Sunday after falling to North Texas 4-1 the day before.

The Lady Demons host a pair of league matches next weekend with conference newcomer New Orleans on Saturday and Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday, both slated to begin at 11:00 at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex.
