NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern State tennis team extended its win streak to four after defeating Texas State 4-2 Sunday morning at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex.
Due to the expected weather in the area, singles play took place first, and deemed doubles unnecessary. The incoming rain also canceled Sunday afternoon's two o'clock match with Grambling.
"We started with singles today due to impending rain and were fortunate to win four matches," said head coach
Patric DuBois. "I felt the whole team played well on each court - we needed to play at a good level today to beat a solid Texas State team. I feel we are playing at a solid level throughout the lineup as we enter Southland Conference play on Tuesday."
With the win, the Lady Demons improve to 6-3 on the season as the Bobcats fall to the same mark.
Aliona Ladutska and
Natalya Krutova picked up wins first, collecting fifth and third singles with scores of 6-1, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-3, respectively.
Kateryna Piatakova battled at No. 4 singles, but fell in the tiebreaker 6-4, 4-6, 11-9, giving Texas State a point.
Daniela Simonova and
Polina Konop followed with wins at the No. 6 and No. 2 slots, claiming the win. Simonova defeated Eva Dench 6-4, 6-2 while Konop took down Monica Pieratt 7-6 (2), 6-2.
Tatiana Larina suffered the other loss for NSU, falling 6-0, 6-1 at first singles.
Northwestern State hits the road on Tuesday to begin Southland Conference play at Abilene Christian at noon, and will head to Oral Roberts, Central Arkansas and Arkansas Tech next weekend, beginning on Saturday at 11:00 in Tulsa, Okla.
