Nedorostova ties Lady Demon career singles victory mark in romp over Nicholls

NATCHITOCHES -- Andrea Nedorostova made her Senior Day especially memorable as she tied Northwestern State's career record for doubles victories and posted a 6-0, 6-0 singles romp Sunday as the Lady Demon tennis team's captain sparked a 6-1 cruise by visiting Nicholls State in a Southland Conference match at Jack Fisher Tennis Complex.

Nedorostova and Tatiana Larina posted an 8-4 win in the No. 1 doubles match, giving the Lady Demons' only senior a career mark of 67-10 in doubles play. That equals the 67 wins (67-21) posted by Bianca Schulz from 2008-11.

She has two regular-season matches on the road next weekend, at Lamar and McNeese, along with at least one match in the Southland Conference Tournament to edge past Schulz for sole possession of the school record. Nedorostova's singles win pushed her career record to 57-20, with the wins ranked  No. 5 all-time, past a tie with Graduate N Club Hall of Famer Karen Patel (56-23 from 1988-91). Patel's teammate and fellow Hall of Famer Vicky Sims Newsom holds the Lady Demon career mark with a 67-19 mark from 1989-92.

"Andrea has been everything we possibly could have hoped for and she's leaving a record as an athlete, as a scholar, as a team captain and a leader that is truly remarkable," said Lady Demon head coach Patric DuBois. "I'm very happy she was able to tie the doubles record in her final home match. Overall we played quite well today and we appreciated the opportunity to perform one last time this season in front of our wonderful fans."

Northwestern improved to 10-6 overall and 5-2 in the Southland while Nicholls, a 4-3 loser Saturday at Stephen F. Austin, dipped to 8-13 overall and 1-6 in league competition.

The Lady Demons swept to the doubles point with the closest call an 8-6 victory at No. 3 by Amy Williams and Daniela Simonova. Northwestern posted four straight-set singles wins, topped by Polina Konop's 6-3, 6-4 triumph at No. 1.

Closing the action were a pair of split-set battles in pro sets. The Lady Demons' Tatiana Larina ended the afternoon with a 6-3, 5-7, 10-8 decision at No. 2 over Natalia Cardiff, just after Olga Leyshyna fell 4-6, 6-1, 10-5 at No. 5 to Isla Brock.

Natalya Krutova didn't drop a game in her No. 3 singles triumph, matching Nedorostova's No. 4 singles score.
