NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Cassandra Barefield rocked her 12th home run of the season as the Northwestern State softball team shutout Stephen F. Austin 12-0 Sunday afternoon to complete the three game series.

The Lady Demons (31-10 overall, 12-5 Southland) swept the Lady Jacks on Saturday to pick up their fifth series win of the season. SFA (12-27 overall, 5-13 SLC) was held to just two runs throughout the weekend.

Tara McKenney kicked off a jam-packed third inning with a single to center field, followed by another single by Brittany Virgoe to bring up power-hitter Brianna Rodriguez. The Rowlett, Texas product picked up two RBI off a shot to left field.

Barefield stepped up to the plate next to put a shot over the center field wall, her second of the weekend, giving the Lady Demons a 5-0 lead.

The fire continued to burn in the fourth as Barefield picked up two more RBI on a double to left center. Cali Burke followed suit with a RBI to left center, followed by Natalie Landry with a shot down the right field line to score two more runs.

The Lady Demons put an even bigger hurt on SFA in the fifth when Rodriguez singled through the right side to send two more runners home, giving her three RBI on the day.

Senior Kylie Roos improved to 11-2 after throwing five complete innings, striking out four and allowing four hits.

“Getting the win today was a great feeling, both for the coaches and the players,” said head coach Donald Pickett. “Getting a series win is one thing, but the sweep makes it even nicer.”

The Lady Demons return home on Saturday to host Houston Baptist in Southland Conference action beginning at three o'clock at the Lady Demon Diamond.
