Lady Demons end regular season on the road

BEAUMONT, Texas – Three-time Southland Conference Player of the Week Polina Konop will lead the Northwestern State tennis team as the Lady Demons head into their final two matches of the regular season at Lamar and McNeese State this weekend.
 
NSU will go up against Lamar on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Thompson Family Tennis Center before heading to McNeese on Sunday for another 11 o'clock match at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center.
 
The Lady Demons (10-6 overall, 5-2 SLC) are tied with Lamar for third place in the conference standings after splitting with top-ranked Southeastern Louisiana and Nicholls State last weekend.
 
The Lady Cardinals (9-8, 5-2) most recently fell to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 4-3 last Sunday.
 
The Cowgirls (13-7, 4-3) sit two spots behind NSU in fifth place in the Southland after dropping a match to Sam Houston State 5-2 on Sunday.
 
Konop, a junior, has compiled a team-best singles record of 13-3 overall and is 6-1 in SLC action.
 
The Kiev, Ukraine native has also performed well in doubles competition, racking up a 12-4, 7-0 record with teammate Natalya Krutova.
 
Senior captain Andrea Nedorostova cemented her place in NSU history last weekend when she tied Bianca Schulz's (67-21) program record for career doubles wins, registering a mark of 67-10 in her four seasons.
 
The Brno, Czech Republic native is fifth in career singles victories with a 57-20 record. She has the chance to edge into a tie for fourth place with one more win and could claim it on her own with two.
 
Nedorostova and sophomore Tatiana Larina are 13-3, 6-1 in doubles play at the No. 1 position.
 
The Lady Demons take a week off before beginning competition in the Southland Conference Tournament on Thursday, April 25.
