NSU hits the road to SFA

Nacogdoches, Texas – Pitcher of the Week Kylie Roos and the Northwestern State softball team will head to Southland Conference rival Stephen F. Austin for a three game series beginning on Saturday at one o'clock. 
 
The Lady Demons hold possession of second place in league standings with records of 28-10 overall, 9-5 SLC while the Lady Jacks sit ninth, posting records of 12-24 overall, 5-10 SLC.
 
Roos (10-2) garnered Southland Conference weekly honors when she threw two shutouts over Central Arkansas in the Lady Demons' most recent series win last weekend. The Celina, Texas product struck out seven and allowed just five hits in both 1-0 victories.
 
Roos sports a 1.24 ERA and 101 strikeouts in just 94.2 innings, while allowing just 52 hits and 21 runs this season.
 
Junior Brianna Rodriguez leads from the plate with a .364 average, 14 doubles and 30 RBI. Rodriguez's .38 doubles per game ranks 11th nationally and first in the SLC.
 
Cassandra Barefield also posts 30 RBI as she leads the team and the league with 10 home runs.
 
With five triples, Tara McKenney ties with Houston Baptist's Lauren Schwirtlich in the SLC. McKenney's .360 average ranks her second on the team.
 
NSU fell to non-conference foe Louisiana Tech 5-0 on Wednesday as the teams met for the sixth time this season. The Lady Demons picked up wins in the first three meetings to go .500 with the Lady Techsters throughout the season.
 
SFA went 1-2 in a conference series with McNeese State last weekend. The Lady Jacks dropped the double header on Saturday but picked up a 2-0 win on Sunday.
 
Elizabeth Arana leads with a .373 average and 16 RBI, followed by Kaneisha Gray with a .333 average. Arana went one-for-two on Sunday against the Cowgirls.
 
Carlie Thomas (9-10) posts a 3.18 ERA in 124.1 innings in the circle. Her 104 strikeouts rank just ahead of Roos in league standings.
 
The Lady Demons return home next Saturday to host SLC newcomer Houston Baptist. First pitch is slated for three o'clock at the Lady Demon Diamond.
