NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern State women's tennis team is off to a good start as it heads into Southland Conference play this weekend against No. 60 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex.

The Lady Demons (5-3) enter the weekend on a two-match win streak after defeating Arkansas State and Louisiana Lafayette last week.

The Islanders are a perfect 8-0 coming into Saturday's match and rank 60th in the nation.

Polina Konop, Natalya Krutova and Andrea Nedorostova lead the Lady Demons in singles competition as each are 6-2 on the season.

With a career doubles record of 61-8, Nedorostova is currently fifth in the NSU career doubles wins ledger. She needs just seven more victories to become the winningest doubles player in Lady Demon history.

Nedorostova has joined sophomore Tatiana Larina in doubles to go 7-1 at the No. 1 spot while Konop and Krutova have teamed up to go 5-3 in doubles play at the No. 2 position.

Larina stands at 5-3 in singles play in the second position.

Sandra Burges and Stefania Nicolae have each compiled spotless 8-0 records thus far to lead A&M-Corpus Christi into Saturday's match.

Celia Rodriguez is also undefeated at 7-0 while Maider Martin and Leanne Mascall have lost just one match apiece for the Islanders.

The Lady Demons have a quick turnaround as they face Sam Houston State on Sunday at 12 o'clock.
