Lady Demons overwhelm Ragin' Cajuns 6-1

LAFAYETTE – The Northwestern State women's tennis team dominated on Sunday as they took down Louisiana-Lafayette 6-1 at the Cajun Courts.
 
The Lady Demons improve to 5-3 on the season while the Ragin' Cajuns drop to 7-5.
 
“We played well today against a solid ULL team,” said Lady Demon coach Patric DuBois.
 
NSU went 2-1 in doubles competition to gain the doubles point and start the day at 1-0.
 
Tatiana Larina and Andrea Nedorostova teamed up to defeat ULL's Sophie Van den Aarssen and Sanda Ahlqvist 8-4 at the No. 1 position while Natalya Krutova and Polina Konop won 8-1 in the No. 2 spot.
 
“All three doubles teams played well and we were fortunate to win the first two,” said DuBois.
 
Konop took down ULL's Aarssen 6-3, 7-5 in singles play at the No. 1 position and Larina defeated Nicole Breaux 6-1, 6-3 in the second spot.
 
Krutova won in the third position, defeating Bailey VanDyke 6-3, 6-4 and Nedorostova overwhelmed Ahlquist 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 4 position.
 
Daniela Simonova battled to a three-set 1-6, 7-5, 10-6 victory over Appleyard in the sixth spot.
 
“All six of our ladies were patient and played within their parameters to claim five singles wins,” said DuBois. “We plan to have a strong week of practice in anticipation of our first SLC match next Saturday against nationally ranked TAMCC.”
 
The Lady Demons return home on Saturday to begin Southland Conference play against No. 60 Texas A&M Corpus Christi. The match is slated to begin at 11 o'clock at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex.
