NATCHITOCHES – Two triples for Shenequia Abby sparked a seventh inning rally and a run-ruled win for the Northwestern State softball team as they split with Lamar in Southland Conference action Friday evening. The Lady Demons fell 5-3 (10 inn.) in game one, only to come back with the 9-1 (5 inn.) victory in game two.

“It was an intense couple of games for us today,” said head coach Donald Pickett. “We really pulled together to get that win in the second game, and it took a lot of fight in the first game to play 10 innings.”

In game one, the Lady Demons trailed Lamar by three in the bottom of the seventh. Cali Burke singled to left field, followed by Jordan Palmer drawing a walk to bring up Abby. Abby ripped a triple to center field to put two on the board.

Tara McKenney followed suit with a RBI single to left field to tie the game at three.

Scoreless eighth and ninth innings led to the tenth when the Lady Cardinals picked up two runs off a RBI single to left field by Casey Cromwell.

The Lady Demons were unable to answer back as the inning ended quickly when Brianna Rodriguez flew out to right field and McKenney was out at first on the double play.

Roos (8-2) threw all 10 innings in the fight with the Lady Cardinals, allowing 10 hits and striking out 13.

NSU did not take any chances in game two as they piled on eight runs in the fourth inning to hold the game to only five innings. RBIs by Palmer, Abby, Cassandra Barefield and Burke allowed the Lady Demons to walk away with the win.

Abby's third inning lead-off triple allowed Brittany Virgoe to grab the RBI single and put the Lady Demons on the board.

Abby led from the plate, going three-for-six and four RBI, followed by McKenney with a five-for-seven outing and one RBI.

Palmer also made quite an impact with a two-for-six performance, picking up two RBI on the day.

Brooke Boening (7-4) and Kaylee Guidry (7-2) combined for six strikeouts and allowed just five hits.

The Lady Demons host Lamar on Saturday at 1:00 to end the three-game series. NSU takes on SLC foe Central Arkansas the following Saturday at four o'clock at the Lady Demon Diamond.
