Field athletes excel at Texas Relays and Bobcat Invitational on Friday

AUSTIN, Texas – The field athletes highlighted Friday's performances as the Northwestern State track and field teams competed at the 86th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays and the Texas State Bobcat Invitational.
 
At the Texas Relays, triple jumper Wayne Douglas and long jumper Emmanuel Williams picked up the best finishes of the day for the men's team. Douglas placed third in the 'b' group with a mark of 50-05.25 while Williams leapt 24-00.75 for a fourth place finish in the 'b' group.
 
The Demon 4x100 team of Justin Walker, Hanoj Carter, Karllis Perry and Kendal Taylor ran the 10th fastest time in the preliminaries, crossing the finish line in 40.77 and missing out on the finals by just .02 second.
 
The men's sprint medley relay team of Gabriel White, Carter, Dezrick Williams and Antwone Cobbin registered a season-best time of 3:34.05 to finish 13th.
 
Janae Allen posted the top finish for the women's squad at the Texas Relays, throwing a season-best mark of 46-10.75 in the shot put for a second place finish.
 
Jessica Talley placed ninth in the javelin with a throw of 146-07.
 
The final day of the Bobcat Invitational was highlighted by several new personal-bests for the Lady Demons.
 
Sarah Jones and Porsha Thomas each set new personal-bests in the triple jump. Jones, a senior, cleared 39-10.50 to place second while Thomas, a freshman, leapt 37-07.25 for a seventh place finish.
 
Karensa Ellis set personal records in both the 800m and 3000m. The senior finished first in the 3000m run with a time of 10:47.02 and third in the 800m in 2:14.99.
 
Aly Coughlin finished 3rd in the 3000m in 11:05.81, nearly nine seconds faster than her previous best, and 10th in the 1500m in 4:59.67, over 10 seconds better than her previous record.
 
The men's 4x200 relay squad and discus thrower Shakemia Johnson will compete in their respective events on Saturday.
