RUSTON, La. – Coming off of a series sweep at Texas A&M – Corpus Christi and a five-game win streak, the Northwestern State softball team will travel to Louisiana Tech Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference match-up beginning at six o'clock.
The Lady Demons (24-6, 5-3 SLC) will meet with the Lady Techsters (13-15, 1-2 WAC) for the fourth time this season. NSU came out on top in two of the previous meetings, falling just once in a hard fought 4-3 battle.
The Lady Demons sit 95
th in the recent RPI rankings released on Monday by the NCAA.
Kylie Roos (8-1),
Brooke Boening (7-4) and
Kaylee Guidry (6-1) have combined to allow just three runs and 10 hits while striking out 22 in the past week.
Roos currently displays a 1.18 ERA, allowing just 14 runs all season, 11 of them earned.
Home runs pushed the Lady Demons to victory twice last week as
Cassandra Barefield,
Brianna Rodriguez and
Natalie Landry put five over the fence, including back-to-back homers by Barefield in Sunday's 5-1 triumph of the Islanders. Barefield also picked up all five RBI on Sunday.
Tara McKenney boasts a .394 average from the plate, knocking the ball into play 43 times, including five triples, a Southland Conference leader.
Rodriguez ranks fifth natioanlly in doubles per game (.47) and leads the conference with 14 doubles as she posts a .381 average and shares a lead in team RBIs (28) with Barefield.
Louisiana Tech was swept by New Mexico State on Saturday after defeating the Aggies 8-4 on Friday.
The Lady Techsters lead the Western Athletic Conference with a combined .316 average and 71 stolen bases.
Hitting .412, Kristen Miles has appeared in all 28 games this season, grabbing 35 hits in 85 at-bats.
Erin and Alayna Kipp trail Miles with .363 and .343 averages, respectively.
From the circle, Michelle Jones (8-8) posts a 3.26 ERA in 88 solid innings. Jones has allowed 78 hits while striking out 64.
The Lady Demons return to conference play on Friday as they host Lamar beginning at four o'clock at the Lady Demon Diamond.
