NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern State women's tennis team coasted its way to a 7-0 victory over Southern Mississippi and registered its second straight win on Saturday afternoon at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex.
 
The Lady Demons improve to 2-1 on the season while USM falls to 0-4.
 
“We played very well today,” said Lady Demon head coach Patric DuBois. “We have been working a lot on the process of how we do things during a match and it paid off today. Everyone in our lineup played at a solid level.”
 
NSU went 3-0 in doubles competition to gain the doubles point at the start of the day. Tatiana Larina and Andrea Nedorostova defeated Kate Lanier and Lauren May 8-0 at the No. 1 spot while Polina Konop and Natalya Krutova took down USM's Elanor Grossman and Alexus Coates 8-3 at the No. 2 position. Both duos remain unbeaten in doubles action at 3-0 on the season.
 
Daniela Simonova and Amy Williams posted a win in the third spot, overwhelming Erika Calamari and Emily Nettles 8-1.
 
Konop and Krutova both improved their singles records to 3-0 as Konop defeated Lanier 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 2 position and Krutova crushed Grossman 6-1, 6-1 in the third spot.
 
Playing at No. 1, Larina moved to 2-1 on the year, dropping USM's Coats 6-0, 6-1. Nedorostova and Williams also advanced to 2-1 in singles play. Nedorostova annihilated May 6-0, 6-0 in the fourth spot and Williams had similar results, taking down Nettles 6-1, 6-0.
 
In her first match of the season, Simonova grabbed an impressive win at the No. 6 position, defeating Calamari 6-0, 6-0.
 
The Lady Demons' match against Louisiana Tech on Sunday has been postponed due to inclemate weather and will be rescheduled at a date to be determined.
 
NSU begins a three-match road trip on Monday as they head to Southern Methodist. They will return home on Friday, February 22 to face off against Louisiana Monroe.
