SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Northwestern State women's tennis team picked up four singles wins to narrowly defeat Texas State 4-3 on Saturday at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
 
The Lady Demons improve to 3-2 while the Bobcats also move to 3-2 on the season.
 
Texas State notched two doubles wins to grab the doubles point and go up 1-0 at the start of the match.
 
Tatiana Larina and Andrea Nedorostova registered the lone doubles win, taking down Jessica Kahts and Melissa Hadad 8-4 at the No. 1 spot.
 
“This was a very good win against a solid and well coached Texas State team,” said Lady Demon head coach Patric DuBois. “After losing the doubles point in three very good matches, the girls stepped up in singles and all played well.”
 
Natalya Krutova won the first singles match of the day, defeating Rachel Baldree 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 3 position.
 
Larina triumphed over Hadad 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 2 match and Nedorostova took down Monica Pieratt 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 4 spot.
 
Amy Williams fell to Mariana Perez 6-1, 6-2 in the fifth spot and Polina Konop was edged by Jessica Kahts 7-6 (4), 7-5 at the No. 1 position.
 
With the score at an even 3-3, the result of the match fell upon freshman Daniela Simonova.
 
Simonova took the first set against Katy Collins 6-3 before falling 2-6 in the second to draw it out to three. She kept her focus and was able to overcome Van den Bergh 7-5 to give the Lady Demons the win.
 
“The match was tied at 3-3 and all eyes were on Daniela,” said DuBois. “She stuck with her plan the whole match and played very well under pressure to clinch the final match for us.”
 
The Lady Demons continue their three-match road trip as they go up against Texas-San Antonio on Sunday at 10 o'clock.
