BATON ROUGE -- The Northwestern State women's tennis team nearly upset No. 45 LSU in its 4-3 loss on Saturday in the first dual-match of the season for both teams.
“It was a tough loss today,” said Lady Demon head coach
Patric DuBois. “LSU had a bit more depth than us, which proved to be the difference. I thought we competed well and showed high energy on all courts.
Polina Konop took down Mary Jeremiah, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6, at the No. 2 position.
NSU freshman
Natalya Krutova also snagged a win, defeating LSU's Ariel Morton, 6-3, 7-5, at the No. 3 spot.
In doubles play, Krutova and Konop also came out on top, taking down Ariel Morton and Mary Jeremiah, 8-7, at the No. 2 position.
Tatiana Larina and
Andrea Nedorostova teamed up to overcome Kaitlin Burns and Caroline Hudson, 8-4, at the No. 1 position.
“Natalya and Polina played at a very high level today in singles and doubles. If we can compete with this intensity on a consistent basis, we will be able to continue to improve and have a lot of positive things happen this season.”
