Lady Demons travel to UTSA, SHSU

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – In the midst of a seven-game road trip, the Northwestern State softball team will travel for a two-game series at Texas-San Antonio on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m., and a doubleheader on Sunday at Sam Houston State starting at 3.

 

The Lady Demons (13-19, 2-4 SLC) are coming off a split doubleheader at Central Arkansas on Tuesday. Brianna Rodriguez and Cassandra Barefield each homered in the series, and Samantha Roberts came through with a go-ahead RBI double in the 5-3 win in game two. Rodriguez is on a six-game hitting streak and leads the team with a .553 slugging mark.

 

Kylie Roos has reached base safely in all of the last 10 games and is on a six-game hitting streak. The junior was just as efficient on the mound Tuesday when she picked up her first save since her freshman year to seal the deal for the Lady Demons in the second game. NSU is 11-0 on the season when leading after six innings.

 

Cali Burke leads the team with a .353 batting average, which is ninth best in the SLC, and .425 on-base percentage. She is one of four hitters in the lineup with a batting average above .300 which includes Barefield who leads the team with 16 runs batted in.

 

UTSA (11-18, 1-3 SLC) is coming off a 1-4 weekend at the Springhill Suite Invitational in Boise, Idaho. In conference, the Roadrunners split with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and drop a pair to McNeese State. They are led by freshman Courtney Buchman who holds a .406 batting average and .500 on-base percentage.

 

SHSU (10-15, 4-2 SLC) is coming off a doubleheader sweep over Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday. The Bearkats also swept Nicholls State, but dropped a series to Central Arkansas. Junior Kim Damien tops the lineup with a .354 average, five homers and 15 RBI.

 

The Lady Demons will return home on Friday, April 6 at 6 p.m. with a series against SFA after they play a road game at Louisiana Tech at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
