CONWAY, Ark. – Freshman Olga Leyshyna rolled at No. 6 singles Saturday morning to help Northwestern State to a 6-1 Southland Conference women's tennis win at Central Arkansas, then the Lady Demons swept the doubles matches and recorded four straight-set doubles wins to defeat Division II power Drury 5-2 in an afternoon contest.

The Lady Demons improved to 9-2 overall, 3-1 in the conference. UCA fell to 6-10 and 0-6 in the SLC. Drury, ranked 37th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Division II poll, slipped to 10-3.

In the morning contest against host UCA, Northwestern claimed five of the six singles matches after capturing the doubles point. Leyshyna won 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 6 position, one of five straight-set singles victories by NSU. Olga Bazhanova won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1, Tatiana Larina posted a 6-2, 6-1 decision at No. 2, Polina Konop held on for a 6-1, 6-4 victory in the third position, and Andrea Nedorostova prevailed 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4.

Bazhanova/Konop at No. 1 (8-4) and Larina/Nedorostova at No. 2 (8-3) posted wins to earn the doubles point for the Lady Demons.

In the Drury match, sweeping the doubles set the tone for Northwestern. Bazhanova/Konop won 8-2 at No. 1, the same score that Amy Williams and Leyshyna posted in their No. 3 victory. Larina/Nedorostova prevailed 8-3 in the second position.

Singles wins came atop the lineup from Bazhanova (6-1, 6-1) and Larina (6-3, 6-2), at No. 4 from Nedorostova (6-0, 6-1) and by Leyshyna at No. 6 (6-2, 6-0).

The two losses came in pro sets after the competitors split sets. At No. 3, Konop was edged 4-6, 6-1, 10-8 by Abbey Sharpe while Drury's Stefanie Monsch prevailed 6-4, 5-7, 10-6 over NSU's Dana Sardak in the fifth position.

Bazhanova recorded her 57th career doubles win and moved into a fourth-place tie with Adna Curukovic (2008-11) and Barbara Tons (1986-89) for most doubles wins in school history. The senior captain is 10 away from tying 2011 senior Bianca Schulz for the all-time school record. Nedorostova, 48-5 all-time in her junior season, is one win away from tying Karla Tubbs (49-30 from 1983-85) for eighth.
