Lady Demons hope to shine Sunday at Southern Mississippi

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Northwestern State aims for a second win in the Magnolia State Sunday in a noon match against Southern Mississippi, aiming for a third straight win over the Golden Eagles out of Conference USA.

But the Lady Demons field almost a completely different lineup than the team that swept USM 7-0 last year, and 6-1 in 2009. After graduation losses, all but the top two singles positions are filled by freshmen for NSU.

The Lady Demons opened two weeks ago with a 4-3 win at Mississippi State, then lost 4-3 last weekend at Houston.

Southern Mississippi was 1-3 going into a scheduled match Friday against Samford. The Lady Demons were slated to play Samford Saturday in Hattiesburg, but weather forced postponement with no rescheduled date immediately agreed upon.

NSU will be at home for the first time this season next weekend. The Lady Demons host Louisiana-Lafayette at 1 next Saturday, then play Texas-Pan American next Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex.
