Coach Dan Bell on Sanders: "Richard's scoring ability has surprised us all. He has always been a good defender, and rebounds it well. Richard's success will come with his self image. When Richard is confident and believes he can play, he is a good as anybody we have. But he goes through stretches where he doesn't feel as positive about himself, and when he does, people go by him. But we're looking for a good contribution this year."

In 1991-92: Sanders was redshirted as a true freshman.

At Pineville HS: Sanders, an alternate for the state high school all-star game, was a Class 3A All-State pick as a senior. He averaged 18 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals for Coach Ronnie Kaiser's Rebels. He played point guard as a senior and shooting guard as a junior, when Pineville won the Class 3A championship with a 29-7 record. Sanders had a career-high scoring output of 38 points as a senior. when the Rebels finished 12-15. He averaged 10 points, 9 rebounds as a sophomore. Sanders was elected Rebel General, the school's highest honor, by the student body. He was a class favorite and sports editor on the yearbook staff. He was second-team all-district as a junior and first-team all-district and All-Cenla as a senior.

Personal: Richard is the second of three sons of Frankie Sanders. He has a younger brother Antonius and an older brother Patrick. Nickname champ of the Demons -- "Lil Richard," "Droopy," "Dick," "Junior," "Sleepy," "Smiley" and "Prime Time," - Sanders is interested in a coaching career. Hi is a psychology major.
