Coach Dan Bell on Venzant:  "The quickest human ... I would love for it to be possible to research and come up with a quicker guy who has ever played here. Has a chance to defensively just really control games. As he gets more comfortable offensively, he has a chance to be a real special player. A winner, and it's going to be a lot of fun to get out of the way and let him play."

In 1991-92: Was not a member of the squad as a freshman. Teamed with Michael Speed on an intramural team.

At Saline HS: The Most Valuable Player in Class C as a senior in 1990-91, Venzant led teh Saline Bobcats to two straight state championships. As a senior, he was a unanimous choice and a repeat selection as the Outstanding Player in Class C at the Top 24 state tournament. He scored 64 points and had 14 rebounds in the Bobcats' two Top 24 wins. Over the season, he averaged 22 points per game, shooting 56% from the field, and averaged 6 rebounds and 6 assists despite playing little more than half of most of his team's games. Saline was 46-4 in his final season, 45-5 in his junior year and 178-19 in his four-year career under Coach William Britt, a Northwestern graduate. As a junior, he averaged 21.6 points, hitting 53% from the floor, 76% from the line and 42% on 3s while getting 9 rebounds per game. In the 1990 Top 24 state championship game, he equaled his season high with 40 points in a 7-point win. Saline reached the state quarterfinals in his freshman and sophomore years as he won all-district honors.

He also starred in track and field as the Bobcats were state runner-ups in Class C in his senior year. He won the 100 and 200 meter dash state titles in Class C

Personal: Donald is th son of Joe and Letha Venzant. He is one of five children - Eddie, Billy Ray, Mary and John. He is nicknamed "Gunzeck." A psychology major, he is interested in teaching career.
