2008 ALL-SLC FIRST TEAM
Eckles had a breakout season last year and is poised to shine even brighter in his senior year. A strong leader with excellent athleticism, Eckles relies upon his intelligence to give him and his teammates the extra edge. He is fundamentally sound and does “all the little things right,” quickly earning the highest respect from his new coaches. Eckles is a prime all-star candidate.
2008-09 Honors: NSU athletic honor roll, fall (3.00-3.49) and spring (4.0)... SLC Commissioner’s Fall Academic Honor Roll.
2008: Second on the team with 89 tackles with 48 of those going for solo… had two interceptions, six pass breakups, five quarterback hurries and one sack… had three double-digit tackles games… posted 11 stops with eight solos against McNeese State… had 10 tackles against both Texas A&M-Commerce and at Baylor… picked off two passes at Stephen F. 2007: SLC All-Academic… fourth on the team with 51 tackles to go along with 1.5 tackles for a loss and four pass breakups... also blocked one kick... had a career-best 12 tackles against Central Arkansas... eight stops at Northeastern.
2006: Played in eight games recording 14 tackles… season-best three stops against Arkansas-Monticello and Southeastern Louisiana.
2005: Redshirted.
Eckles in High School: First-team all-district in his senior season… second-team all-district junior season… named co-captain of football team and captain of the basketball team in his senior year… named Most Improved his sophomore season… had 75 tackles, two interceptions, and two blocked punts with one for a touchdown his senior season… team went 25- 20 in his four years, making the second round of the playoffs in his freshman season… four-year letterman in football and basketball… two-year letterman in track… named Freshman of the Year for the Wolverines in basketball… twice named first-team all-district in basketball… honorable mention all-district in basketball his sophomore season… president of Fellowship of Christian Athletes… president of Beta Club… sophomore class president… parliamentarian of Future Business Leaders of America… National Honor Society member… named to Who's Who Among American High School Students… graduated with a 3.95 grade point average.
Eckles' Personal: Born Nov. 18, 1986... only son of Arleatha Eckles Jackson and the late Fredrick Calhoun… member of Presidential Leadership Program, Phi Beta Sigma, and Blue Key International Honor Society… majoring in business administration with a minor in finance… full name is Wesley DeShon Eckles… nicknamed “Chocolate Thunder” and “Eck.”
