After one of the more unlikely and heroic efforts in recent Demon history at the end of the 2007 season, Martinez has become a valued member of the quarterback stable with his intelligence, team-first approach and ability to respond as needed.
2008: Did not see any playing time.
2007: Was headed for a redshirt year as the scout team QB until injuries knocked out the only two healthy varsity QBs, Germayne Edmond and Drew Branch, by halftime of the 11/10 game at unbeaten McNeese State … After running the McNeese offense all week in practice, Martinez ran the Demons offense as NSU rolled up 262 yards on 51 plays in the last two quarters and had the ball with a chance to win in the final minute of play … he was named the KPLC-TV (Lake Charles) athlete of the week for his performance … Martinez started the next week against Stephen F. Austin and helped the Demons out to a lead in a 31-12 win... Chris Waddell Award winner.
Martinez in High School: A three sport star at Jennings High School where he earned All-District, All-Parish, and All-SWLA honors in football, baseball, and track... guided his football teams to the second round of the state playoffs in both his junior and senior years... also helped his baseball team as a junior and senior to the state playoffs... high school teammate of fellow Demons Gary Riggs and Kenneth Charles.
Martinez's Personal: Born Feb. 20, 1989... son of Jerry and Mandy Martinez... father was a minor league pitcher in the Dodgers' organization and was NSU's pitching coach for two years under coach Johnnie Emmons in 1986-87... five sisters, Carmen, Addy, Mallory, Cammhy, and Maggy... majoring in electronic engineering... full name is Carson Wardlow Martinez… nickname is “Tinez.”
