2018 Southland Conference Commissioner’s Fall Honor Roll
2019 Season: Returned from spring shoulder surgery to play the final four games of the season … recorded 14 tackles in those games … had five tackles each against Stephen F. Austin (Nov. 21) and vs. Lamar (Nov. 9) … recovered a fumble in the season finale against SFA and broke up a pass at Sam Houston State on Nov. 16 .. recorded a tackle for loss against Lamar.
2018 Season: Started all 11 games ... fourth on the team and second among linebackers with 64 tackles, including 30 solo ... second on the team with four sacks ... tied for fourth on the team with six tackles for loss ... recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown at Southeastern Louisiana ... had a season-high 10 tackles in the win at rival Stephen F. Austin ... had eight tackles, including a sack, in the season opener at Texas A&M ... other full sacks came against Houston Baptist and McNeese … forced a fumble at Abilene Christian ... broke up two passes ... had a quarterback hurry against Sam Houston State.
Prior to NSU: Two-year letterman at Trinity Valley Community College for current Northwestern State offensive coordinator Brad Smiley … recorded 68 tackles (49 solo, 19 assists) in nine games as a sophomore .... had four tackles for loss and one pass breakup for the Heart of Texas Bowl champions … had 107 total tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, nine sacks, three pass breakups and two forced fumbles for as a freshman, helping Trinity Valley win both the regional and SWJCFC championships … graduated with a 3.7 GPA.
High School: Two-year letterman and an academic all-state selection at Deer Park High School, graduating with a 3.5 grade point average … racked up 150 tackles, nine for loss, eight pass breakups and two interceptions as a senior, earning first-team all-district honors … first-team all-district as a junior when he had 130 total tackles and three interceptions for an 8-3 squad.
Personal: Son of Melinda and David Stephenson … mom is a non-profit branch director of Clothed By Faith in southeast Houston ... dad is a chemical plant operator ... one brother Clay and one sister Dylan … business major with a 3.7 GPA ... plans to get masters in construction management and pursue a career in the industrial construction field … life’s ambition is to use his talents and opportunities given to glorify God and for the benefit of others.
