Austin had an extremely strong 2008 season despite his family losing its Galveston home in Hurricane Ike. He impressed coaches with a very good spring and will be a formidable tandem with Quentin Goodie. Austin will also get some spot duty at tailback and on special teams. He is a vocal leader and a hard worker with great hands.
2008: Played in all 12 games, rushing for two yards on four carries… caught seven passes for 49 yards… had half of his catches against Texas State. 2008 Preseason All-SLC 2nd Team
2007: Saw action in nine games, rushing for 15 yards on one carry while catching four passes for 12 yards.
2006: Played in seven games and had three carries for one yard… also caught one pass for 11 yards and had two kick returns for a total of nine yards.
2005: Redshirted.
Austin in High School: Lettered three years in football and three in track at Galveston Ball High School... rushed for 980 yards and 14 touchdowns as a junior, earning all-district and all-Galveston County honors while leading his team to a quarterfinal appearance in the state playoffs... ran for 1,100 yards and 17 tds as a senior, earning all-district and all-Galveston Country honors while being named his team's MVP.
Austin's Personal: Born Aug. 6, 1987... son of Chertetrice Austin and Roy Smith Sr.... has two brothers, Damion and Dervante… has one sister, Brianna Florence… a member of the Ball High Best Program... nickname is “Bear”... cousin, Kimble Anders, was a member of the Kansas City Chiefs... majoring in criminal justice and plans to become a narcotics officer.
