NATCHITOCHES – A no-hitter, two complete games, two wins and a save made Mattison Buster the clear choice for Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
 
The junior transfer had a hand in three of the Demons (9-13) four wins in the City of Lights Classic this past weekend.
 
She threw her first career no-hitter against Arkansas-Pine Bluff to open the weekend, striking out five batters and allowing just three total baserunners in the game. She earned her second win the next day, tossing a complete game and holding the potent Missouri State lineup to just two earned runs as the Demons won a wild 5-3 game.
 
In Sunday's finale against UAPB she retired the final eight batters of the game in a row to earn her first NSU save.
 
Buster, who ranks in top 10 in the country in pitching appearances, games started and innings pitched, threw 14.2 innings across three outings, allowed just two earned runs, for a 0.95 weekend ERA, and held batters to a .122 average against. She allowed just six hits while in the circle.
 
The Sulphur Springs, Texas native has seven wins on the year with six complete games and three shutouts and ranks third in the Southland with 42 strikeouts.
 
NSU leadoff batter JT Smith, who tallied seven hits for a .538 weekend batting average and an OPS of 1.838, received an honorable mention for conference hitter of the week.
 
Buster and the Demons open conference play this weekend with a three-game series at Houston Christian.
