FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.—It hasn't been a bad start to the indoor season, as Northwestern State is three meets in, and three indoor school records have already been set.

After Will Achee broke the 400-meter dash mark and as a part of the 4x400 relay team, both at the indoor opener at the Corky Classic, this time around it was Rushana Dwyer running her way into record book in the women's 800-meter run Saturday at the Woo Pig Classic on the campus of the University of Arkansas.

"Overall, it was a really good meet," head coach Mike Heimerman said. "We had a lot of great performances across the board, led by the men's sprinters. It was fun to watch them work. The 200's and 400'd were great, led by Keontae and William did great. We still have room for improvement, and they will be some of the first people to say that.

"Rushana broke the school record in the 800 and what was most impressive is that she wasn't 100 percent and almost didn't run because of that."

Dwyer rolled her way into the record books with a 2:11.85, defeating the previous school record by more than two seconds, set by Jessica Coleman almost eight years to the day (2/9/18).

Also in the 800, Alaysia Reed clocked a 2:25.85 in her first career 800 race.

Staying on the track, Koen Beavers and Keontae Gaines showed out in the men's 60-meter dash, each finishing in the top three.

Gaines finished with the last qualifying time in the prelims with a 6.80 before running a season-best 6.70 in the finals to place second, while Beavers ran a 6.79 in the qualifiers to finish seventh before sprinting to a 6.71 to come in third.

Kalen Beavers also ran a 6.80 in the qualifying round, but lost out to Gaines by less than a tenth of a second. Eddy Vu (6.83) finished 13th and Elijah Rowe (6.89) tied a season best time and finished 18th.

Gaines wasn't finished with his terrific day, leading the way in the men's 200-meter dash, clocking a 20.90, which is second in the Southland, to win the event as NSU finished with three in the top four.

Rowe (21.18) placed second and Will Achee ran a personal-best 21.34 to finish fourth. Not too far behind was Mikkel Johansson (21.53), who placed sixth.

Rounding out the Demons was Vu (21.82) in 16th, Desmond Duncan (21.88) in 18th and Antoine Evans Jr. (21.98) in 19th.

Achee also had another strong run in the 400-meter dash, clocking a 47.05, to finish third out of 28.

Kason Jones (47.81) clocked ninth, Duncan (48.05) came in 11th, Johansson (48.22) finished in 13th and Clinton Laguerre (50.03) placed 24th.

To round out the day, the quartet of Rowe, Duncan, Achee and Johansson had another strong race in the men's 4x400 relay, clocking a 3:09.01 to finish third behind a pair of teams from Arkansas.

On the women's side, Dynia Lewis had a strong day, starting with first track event of the day, the women's 60-meter hurdles.

Although Lewis was the lone Lady Demon to advance to the finals, nearly two others joined her. Lewis finished fifth in the qualifying round with a best time of 8.54. Silet Gray (8.92) and Thea Ring (8.99) nearly also qualified, coming in ninth and 10th, respectively.

In the finals, Lewis nearly matched her qualifying time with an 8.56 to finish fifth.

A pair of Lady Demons made the finals in the 60-meter dash, led by Sileena Farrell's 7.43 to place fifth, while Maria Umoibang placed sixth with a personal-best 7.51.

Juvonna Cornette clocked a 7.59 to finish 12th and Victoria Byrd ran a season-best 7.79 to finish 21st.

Farrell (7.50) placed fifth in the finals and Umoibang (7.57) finished sixth.

In the 400-meter dash, Margaret Conteh ran a 53.88 to place 10th and Dhakiya Blake (55.80) ran a personal best to finish 19th.

Conteh also led the way in the 200-meter dash, placing 10th with a 24.40. Kahliyah Anderson (24.60) finished 14th, Blake (24.63) placed 15th and Lewis (24.69) came in 16th. Layden Jack (25.11), Gray (25.53) and Cherie Neal (26.46) all posted personal bests.

Over in the jumps, Roy Morris continues a sensational sophomore campaign, recording a 24-5.75 to finish first in the long jump out of 17 competitors. Freshman Marquis Butler finished sixth with a personal best jump of 23-5.75.

Butler also had a strong showing at the men's triple jump with a toss of 50-6.75 to finish third.

It was another strong effort for Randy Kelly in the men's long jump, clearing 6-10.75, which tied a season best.

On the women's side, a trio posted season bests in the long jump, led by Victoria Byrd (18-4.25) in sixth place. Freshman Ciera Cammon (17-9.5) finished in 15th and Ring (17-8) in 18th.

In the women's pole vault, Aly Jo Warren cleared 12-1.5 to finish eighth.

Sophomore Ryah Dates was the star of the throws with a personal best toss of 49-8.5 to win the women's shot put. Eliska Zahadnickova posted a season-best throw of 44-10.75 to place fifth. Shanice Hutson (44-9.75) and Shakera Williams (43-1.75) placed sixth and ninth, respectively.

In the men's shot put, Donroy Brown placed fourth with a season-best 55-11.75. LaDarion Dudley (51-11.25) finished sixth and Abner Johnson (46-10.75) placed 10th.

Johnson came in sixth in the men's weight throw with a toss of 57-9.75.4.

"I am very happy with the performances," Heimerman said. "We had two not so good weather days this past week to train in but it was way better than last week's weather. We will get back to work with a short week before Texas Tech."

The Demons wrap up the pre-Southland Conference meet slate with a trip back to Texas Tech and the Jarvis Scott Invite, a two-day meet that starts on Friday. The SLC Indoor Championships start Feb. 25 and lasts two days.
