NATCHITOCHES—Two weeks. Two weekly awards for
Kennedy Rist.
For the second time in as many weeks, Rist takes home the Southland Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Her two weekly awards matches
Libe Banuelos' total from last season and it is the first time a Demons keeper has won the goalkeeper of the week award multiple weeks in a row to begin a season since Acelya Aydogmus did it in the first three weeks in the Spring 2021 season.
After stopping 19 shots in week one, she stopped seven more shots in a 1-0-1 week, which included her first career shutout in the scoreless draw last Thursday at Tarleton State.
In the home opener Sunday afternoon, she made six saves in the 3-1 win over Alcorn State, many of the saves in pressure situations, none bigger than her penalty kick save in the second half.
Early in the second half, Alcorn was pressuring the NSU defense and forced a penalty kick with the Demons in front 2-1. On the kick, Rist dove to save the ball in the bottom right corner of the goal and gobbled up the ball to not allow a rebound opportunity.
Through two weeks, she leads the conference in saves with 26 and is among the top in the league in goals against average at 1.25.
NSU is next in action Sunday at Mississippi Valley State before coming back home for contests against Grambling (Sept. 4) and UL Lafayette (Sept. 7).
