Spots still available for annual DDW Tournament

NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State women's basketball's annual golf fundraising event is still accepting participant registrations and sponsorships.

The 37th Don't Die Wondering Golf Classic, set for Sept. 13 at Northwestern Hills Golf Course, on the state Highway 1 bypass, remains the primary fundraising effort for the women's basketball program under sixth-year head coach Anna Nimz.

The Don't Die Wondering Golf Tournament began in 1989 at the behest of former head coach James Smith, who took the phrase from a locker room speech by former NSU point guard Angela Ortega.

Entry fees for this year's event are $450 per team or $125 per individuals playing solo. The four-person, 18-hole, scramble format tournament will begin at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start.

During their round, golfers will have the opportunities to shoot for two new cars with a hole-in-one challenge as well as have their go.

lf skills challenged throughout the course with various games, skill challenges and other surprises along the way.

Food and drinks will also be available at the club house and throughout the course.

Hole sponsorships and corporate sponsorships for the event are also available. All proceeds benefit NSU women's basketball, including feeding players over holiday breaks, overall team travel expenses and additional program costs, all of which have direct impact on the players.
