BATON ROUGE—There aren't enough adjectives in the world to describe the greatness of
Maygan Shaw.
Just this year, she has broken and re-broken several Northwestern State records. She added to that total at LSU, as she smashed her school record of 400-meter dash, clocking a 51.19, crushing her previous record of 51.87, which she set at the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational earlier this month.
That was one of the two school records broken by Northwestern State, highlighting a sensational day at the LSU Alumni Gold on Saturday on the campus of LSU.
In addition to Shaw's spectacular performance at the women's 400,
Margaret Conteh ran a personal-best 53.72 to place 14
th in the stacked field.
Shaw also was a member of the 4x400 relay team that nearly broke the school record, falling short by 2.6 seconds, as the quartet of Shaw, Conteh,
Samari Finney and
Tranasia Jones clocked a 3:31.82, one of the best marks in school history and the best time this season.
Not to be outdone, the men's 4x400 relay team lived up to the nickname 'Speed Demons,' as they also ran their way into the school record books, as the team of
Galen Loyd,
Vincente Graiani,
William Achee and
Desmond Duncan ran a 3:06.16, breaking a record that had stood since 2003.
While it was not a school record, the men's 4x100 relay did clock a season best, as Loyd,
Tavis Wilson,
Mikkel Johansson and
Elijah Rowe ran a 39.45, which is the best mark in the Southland this season.
In the men's 400, Achee paced the Demons with an 11
th place finish, running a 46.94. Loyd placed 17
th with a time of 47.30.
Duncan (47.88) came in 22nd,
Kason Jones (48.46) placed 23
rd and Johansson (48.72) finished in 25
th.
Wilson led the Demons in the men's 100-meter dash, clocking a 10.51 to finish 10
th, right behind former teammate
Zachaeus Beard, who placed ninth with a time of 10.50.
Sileena Farrell ran a personal best on the women's side in the 100, placing 12
th with a time of 11.56.
Raven-Symone Jarrett nearly ran a personal best in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking a 13.73 to place fifth.
Jarrett also ran the 400-meter hurdles, leading the Lady Demons with a time of 1:00.86 to finish sixth.
Silet Gray ran a personal-best 1:02.05 to finish ninth and
Kahliyah Anderson (1:02.27) finished 11
th.
On the men's side,
Robert Norton clocked a 55.19 to finish in 12
th.
Rowe ran a 21.53 in the men's 200 to come in 14
th.
Graiani clocked a personal best in the men's 800-meter run, running a 1:49.44.
In the throws,
Joseph Yount recorded a personal best in the javelin, as the sophomore tossed a 201-09 to finish in fourth and
Maddox Reine (172-02) placed ninth.
On the women's side,
Teodora Samac threw a 144-10 in the javelin to finish in fifth place.
A pair of season bests were set in the women's shot put, led by
Carnitra Mackey (46-7.5), placing fourth.
Shakera Williams (46-6.25) also posted a season best to place sixth.
Shakera Kirk nearly tossed a season best, throwing a 157-09 to finish sixth in the women's discus.
On the men's side in the discus,
Seth Smith nearly tossed a season best, recording a thow of 163-05.
Briana Green nearly posted a season best in the women's long jump with a jump of 18-3 and
Jaslyn Smith recorded a 39-1.75 in the women's triple jump.
At the women's pole vault,
Kalli Knott cleared 12-7.5 to place third.
At Rice in the J. Fred Duckett Twilight,
Evan Wilson ran a season-best 2:01.43 to lead the way for the Demons, placing 29
th in the men's 800-meter run.
Mason Bayne followed behind with a time of 2:02.78, finishing 32
nd and
Owen Rue clocked a personal-best 2:06.18 to come in 36
th.
On the women's side,
Chesney Mathews ran a 2:39.57 to place 31
st.
Lalaina Wood ran a personal-best 5:07.62 to place 29
th while Mathews ran a 5:33.40.
Rue clocked a 4:17.15 to place 30
th on the men's side and Bayne finished closely behind in 34
th with a time of 4:19.98.
Northwestern State has one more outdoor meet prior to the SLC meet, a one-day meet at TCU on May 3 before a break prior to the conference meet, which begins May 15 in Houston.
