NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State was unable to keep pace with the hot bats of ULM on Wednesday night in a 13-0 loss in five innings.
The Warhawks (9-7) needed just two batters to take the lead in the game and never looked back launching three home runs and taking advantage of nine walks issued by Demon pitching on the night.
The first walk of the night came to the Warhawk leadoff batter Brooklyn Lippert who trotted home five pitches later on the first of back-to-back home runs from sisters Meagan and Morgan Brown.
The three-run first was one of four innings in which ULM scored three or more runs in the game, being held scoreless in just the second inning.
The Demons (1-14) were retired in order in each of the first two trips to the plate before
Brynn Daniel lead off the third with a sharp single to left for the first of her two hits in the game. Daniel laced a double to the wall in left center with one out in the bottom of the fifth to go 2-for-2 on the night, her second multi-hit game of the year.
Cash Herber followed with a base hit through the right side creating the Demons best scoring chance of the game. The potential rally was snuffed out on a hard-hit ball right to third base that turned into a double play at second. A ground out to short ended the frame five pitches later.
ULM's third long ball of the game came in the next half inning, a three-run shot to right center that stretched the lead to double digits at 10-0. They added three more in the fifth on NSU's only error of the game and an RBI infield single and groundout.
