NATCHITOCHES—For the third time in six weeks, Northwestern State claimed the Southland Conference Player of the Week.
And for the second time, it was
Mya Blake who took home the honor.
Blake, a senior from California, averaged 21 points per game, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game, as the Demons won a pair of road games against Nicholls and McNeese.
Blake's 21 points per game included 32 points in the big victory at Nicholls on just 19 shots to push the Demons (12-10, 9-4) to a 68-60 road win.
She followed that up with a near-double-double in another road victory against McNeese, recording 10 points and eight assists to lift Northwestern State to a dominant 80-56 win.
After spotting Nicholls the first eight points, Blake responded with seven straight and scored all 10 points in the first quarter for the Demons.
Her late 3-pointer in the first quarter began a 22-4 run to turn the game around and lead the Demons to a lead and eventual win.
Blake started the scoring against McNeese with a 3-pointer, building on her success from win at Nicholls.
She did not need to carry the scoring load, but was more than happy to help contribute to it, dishing out eight assists, which tied a season high and were the most during Southland Conference play.
Blake is one of two players to have won the SLC Player of the Week award twice, joining Nicholls' Tanita Swift, who claimed the honor twice in the season's first three weeks.
She also joins
Vernell Atamah as the Demons to win the award this season.
Overall, she leads the SLC in both overall scoring (17.3 points per game) and scoring during league play (19.4). Her four assists per game in SLC play ranks in the top five in the conference.
Blake and the Demons embark on a big stretch, playing the top three teams in the league in a row, beginning with a home date against Lamar on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Prather Coliseum.
