HUNTSVILLE – The Northwestern State tennis team continues its fall schedule this weekend, traveling to Huntsville, Texas, to compete in the Bearkat Invitational, hosted by Sam Houston, beginning Friday.

The Lady Demons enter their third fall tournament looking to build on a solid performance at the Texas State Invitational, where they collected multiple singles and doubles victories across a competitive regional field.

Head coach Marcos Morelli said the team has been focused on fine-tuning individual aspects of their games while maintaining a high level of preparation throughout the week.

"Each player has individual goals to work on," Morelli said. "There's going to be strong competition this weekend, and I'm excited to see how we perform."

Through two fall events, NSU has seen consistent progress across the lineup.

Maria Farina delivered one of the top singles wins last time against Texas State, while Honoka Umeda and Martina Acebedo Bonocore have each earned multiple victories this fall.

Doubles pairings such as Athina Grigoriadou and Acebedo Bonocore have also continued to show promising chemistry.

Morelli said he's encouraged by the team's growth and mindset as the fall season continues.

"I think the girls are taking steps in the right direction," he said. "It's all about committing 100 percent to the process and trusting it, even when things don't go our way."

The Lady Demons are competing alongside Stephen F. Austin, Lamar, and homestanding Sam Houston this weekend, facing a strong field of regional opponents.

Looking ahead, Morelli emphasized that the Bearkat Invitational is serving as another key opportunity for the team to build experience and represent the program with pride.

"It's another great opportunity to compete and represent the school the best way possible," he said.
