LUBBOCK, Texas—No record is safe in any meet Northwestern State is involved in.

Last meet, the women's 4x400 relay team broke the Southland Conference indoor record. This time around, it was Tim Pelkmans who broke the program record in the heptathlon, while Maygan Shaw nearly broke a second record in as many weeks.

In a day filled with strong performances, those two stole the show on the second day of the Stan Scott Invite and Multis on Friday at the Sports Performance Center.

"It was a great day," head coach Mike Heimerman said. "Tim started us off hot with the school record and it was contagious. The show was put on by the 400m group on both sides. It was impressive to watch, as almost every one of them ran a PR. Maygan and Galen stole the show. I cannot brag enough on that 400 meter group. It was awesome to watch.

"Dynia in the hurdles and 60, Sileena in the 60, Tavis in the 60. They were all fantastic. The pole vaulters did well and Roy in the long jump. I thought the throwers did well. They weren't clicking all the way, but we are definitely headed in the right direction. I'm very proud of this team and looking forward to tomorrow."

The day started with Pelkmans finishing off the heptathlon in grand fashion, winning the men's 1000-meter dash to push his point total to 5318, beating the previous record of 5262 he set at last year's SLC Indoor Championships.

Not to be outdone, freshman Bruce Boon used a fourth-place finish in the pole vault to earn him 4893 points, good for sixth place.

After earning SLC Female Track Athlete of the Week for her performance at the Corky Classic, she followed that up with another sensational performance, clocking a 53.05 in the 400-meter dash, a personal best and the second-best time in NSU history. She ran away from the field, winning the race by nearly a second over teammate Margaret Conteh, who also set a personal best with a time of 53.94.

Those two set the tone for a sensational day for both the women and men in the event.

Kahliyah Anderson destroyed her personal best, clocking a 53.33 to finish 11th.

Tranasia Jones (55.77) and Jayla Mason (55.83) finished 16th and 17th, respectively, while Samari Finney's 55.96 placed her 22nd.

Four more personal bests were set on the men's side, led by Galen Loyd's 47.34, setting a new personal best by more than a second and a half. William Achee was at the back of the pack with less than 200 meters to go and came back to win a thrilling heat to put him in 11th place.

Kason Jones (47.75) and reigning SLC Male Track Athlete of the Week Vincente Graiani (47.80) placed 17th and 19th, respectively, both earning personal bests.

Tavis Wilson posted a personal-best 6.70 in the semifinals of the 60-meter dash, and ran a 6.70 again in the finals to finish fifth.

Wilson and Tajae Francis made the semifinals in the 60, where Francis ran a 6.81 to place 21st.

While he didn't advance to the semifinals, Loyd ran a personal-best 6.95 to place 41st.

On the women's side, Sileena Farrell (7.55) posted a season best, while Dynia Lewis (7.60) posted a personal best, placing 18th and 23rd out of 61, respectively.

In the men's 60-meter hurdles, the only participant from the Demons, Dishaun Lamb, qualified for the semifinals with a time of 8.16 to place 19th with the top 24 advancing.

Lamb ran an 8.09 in the semifinals to place 14th.

On the women's side, Lewis (8.61), Raven-Symone Jarrett (8.83) and Silet Gray (8.93) all advance to the semifinals, where Lewis clocked a season-best 8.58 to place 12th.

Robert Norton (1:14.81) and Evan Wilson (1:17.19) each ran personal bests in the 600-meter run.

In the field events, the men's weight throwers had a day, led by newcomer Abner Johnson, who tossed a 57-0 to take second out of 13 competitors.

Justin Craft took fourth, tossing a personal-best 54-9.25, while Tarajh Hudson (48-6) placed seventh.

Bernesha Knowles reached the finals on the women's side, tossing a personal-best 54-5 to finish fourth.

Freshman Roy Morris recorded a season-best 23-11.5 to place fifth in the long jump, while Randy Kelly (22-10.5) tied an indoor personal best to place 14th.

At the pole vault, freshman Maxwell Gautreau cleared 15-7 in his first collegiate performance to place sixth, while Kareem Nazim cleared 15-1 to place right behind Gautreau in seventh.

Over in Houston at the Robert Platt Invitational, both the men and the women ran the mile with two setting new personal bests.

Rounding out the day, Leah Thompson (5:44.22) on the women's side and Korbin Shumate (4:53.24) set PRs, leading a young group of Northwestern State runners.

Owen Rue clocked a 4:48.98, Kaden Elliott (4:53.24) and Chesney Mathews (6:28.22) all competed in their first collegiate mile for the track teams.

The meet wraps up Saturday with competition beginning at 11 a.m. with the women's shot put.
