NATCHITOCHES—Scoring her second career goal and playing her usual stingy defense, Jessica Spitzer earned the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Spitzer, a junior from Allen, Texas, scored a goal and helped hold the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi offense in check as the Demons (8-6-2, 4-2-1) scored the first three goals of the game in a 3-1 road victory Friday evening.

Leading 1-0, Spitzer headed a shot into the back of the net after a corner kick from Emma Pethel to double the lead. The goal ended up as the game-winner.

After her twin sister Taylor Spitzer found the back of the net to open the scoring, Jessica's goal meant that each twin scored in the same game for the second time, also doing so in the Demons 4-1 win at McNeese.

She also helped limit the Islanders to few golden opportunities, as AMCC only scored once, which came on a penalty kick. Spitzer did well in her 1-on-1 matchups, which contributed to the dominant road win.

The award is the first weekly award of her career.

Spitzer joins Alina Graf, Libe Banuelos and Kora Fry as Demons who have earned the weekly honors this season. Banuelos is the only one of the three who has won a weekly award twice this season.

The Demons wrap up the home portion of the schedule with a pair of games this weekend, playing Lamar on Friday and SLC newcomer UTRGV on Sunday. Northwestern State finishes the regular season Nov. 1 when it travels to rival Stephen F. Austin.
