Tennis prepared for UTSA road match Saturday

SAN ANTONIO, Tex. – Coming off a 4-3 win against UL Monroe, the Northwestern State tennis team focus on its next set of opponents. 
 

Beginning Saturday, the Lady Demons take to the road to battle UTSA for a 10 a.m. first serve before taking on Texas State on Saturday at 11 a.m. 
 

The match marks the second of three consecutive matches on the road second of five consecutive contests away from Natchitoches. 
 

"We are excited and ready to go into a stage of our schedule that is more challenging with the amount of matches we play," said head coach Jonas Brobeck. "However, the Lady Demons have worked hard all year and we are ready both physically and mentally." 
 

NSU (5-1) had a close match against ULM going into the last singles match, winning 4-3. Tied at 3-3, Tjasa Klevisar, playing at the No. 2 spot, dropped the first set to Alice Klinteby before coming back to win the final two sets to clinch the victory for NSU. She ended the match with a 6-4 win to take home the victory for the Lady Demons. 
 

Klevisar has a team-high five victories in singles at the Nos. 1 and 2 positions and is 4-1 in doubles with her partner Ayu Ishibashi at the No. 1 spot. 
 

She is one of four Lady Demons to have recorded at least four wins in singles, being joined by Ishibashi, Dorota Szczygielska and Sofi Garcia
 

Doubles have been a strength for NSU, going 12-5 combined. The duo of Szczygielska and Renske Ubachs lead the way in doubles with a 5-1 record. 
 

UTSA (7-4) is entering to match coming off a 4-1 win against Kansas City. Three of their four losses have come in 4-3 nailbiters. 

Aleksandra Zlatarova has been a stalwart at the top spot in the singles rotation for the Roadrunners, compiling an impressive 9-1 mark. 
 

She is also a top doubles player as well. No matter who Zlatarova is paired with, she has won, rolling to a 7-3 record, despite having played with three different teammates, all at the top spot in the rotation. 
 

Zlatatova has teamed up with Fatima Gutierrez most often, as the duo is 4-2 together. 
 

NSU is coming into this match against UTSA with a 16-14 record, the last meeting in 2022 in Natchitoches, resulting in a 6-1 win for the Lady Demons. 
 

Texas State (2-5) enters the match with a 6-1 win against SFA. 
 

Following the match against UTSA, the Lady Demons have a quick turnaround, facing Texas State on Saturday. The Lady Demons next play in front of the home crowd March 14 against NJIT.
