Softball adds eight in 2025 signing class

NATCHITOCHES -- Northwestern State softball and first-year head coach Lacy Prejean announced the addition eight signees that will continue their academic and athletic careers for the Demons following Wednesday's signing day.

The full true-freshman class that will join the Demons for the 2025 season includes a pitcher, two catchers, an infielder, and outfielder and three utility players. The class consists of Sara Kate Booker (Many, La.), Madison Chaplin (Jonesboro, La.), Tori Clayton (Atlanta, Texas), Savannah Coleman (College Station, Texas), Ary Garcia (Spring, Texas), Grace Ann McDonald (Whitehouse, Texas), Ryley Nihart (Manvel, Texas) and Peyton Peck (Northlake, Texas).

Sara Kate Booker – OF – L/R – 5-7 – Many, La. (Many HS) - @sarakatebooker

Four-time, first-team all-state, four-time, first-team all-district, two-time state champion and 2023 district MVP for Many HS…won back-to-back state titles in her first two prep seasons…has hit .450 or better with an on-base percentage of .550 or better in each of the past three seasons…as a sophomore she hit .541 with an OBP of .611 tallying 60 hits across 33 games while stealing 18 bases, all career highs to this point…has 60 hits in each of the past two seasons with 35 total stolen bases…member of National Honor Society, 4-H, BETA, FBLA, FCA and the Library Club.
 
Daughter of Nikki and Norman Booker…has four siblings, three brothers and one sister…plans to major in biology and work in dental hygiene…brother Keaton and former Demon softball player E.C. Booker, née Delafield, are her high school coaches.


Madison Chaplin – UTL – R/R – 5-8 – Jonesboro, La. (Quitman HS) – @MadiChaplin24
Two-time, first-team all-state player and three-time, first-team all-district player for Quitman HS…advanced to at least the quarterfinals of the playoff in each of her three seasons thus far that includes a trip to the semi-finals and the state championship game as during her junior season…helped the Wolverines win 22 or more game in each of her three seasons…awarded Quitman utility award during her freshman season and spirit award after her junior year.
 
Daughter of Cherie and Scott Morgan…has two brothers and one sister…plans to major in criminal justice.


Victoria Clayton – UTL – R/R – 5-3 – Atlanta, Texas (Atlanta HS) - @VClayton2024
Two-sport athlete at Atlanta HS in softball and basketball…won a district championship and was named district offensive MVP during her freshman season…in that first prep year she hit .597 at the plate with a 1.837 OPS, slugging 10 home runs and driving in 51 runs…named district defensive MVP following her sophomore season while maintaining a .584 batting average with 1.693 OPS on the year…finished her junior season with a third straight season with an OPS over 1.000 for the year…member of National Honor Society and the student council where she is her class vice president.
 
Daughter of Ali and Michael Clayton…has two siblings, a brother and a sister…sister Madison runs cross country and track at Midway University…plans to major in biology and wants to enter the medical field…stared on an episode of "Toddlers and Tiaras" when she was younger.


Savannah Coleman – C – L/R – 5-9 – College Station, Texas (A&M Consolidated HS) - @scoleman2006
Two-time all-district player for A&M Consolidated HS…earned a second-team all-district honor following her freshman season and picked up a first-team all-district honor after her sophomore season…named to the All-Brazos Valley Team as a sophomore.
 
Daughter of Sandy and Jac Coleman…has two sisters…plans to major in agricultural business.


Arianays Garcia Santana – C – R/R – 5-7 – Spring, Texas (Klein Collins HS) - @4AryGarcia
Three-time all-district player, once at United High School and twice at Klein Collins HS…named district newcomer of the year following her sophomore season after batting over .400 for the season and boasting a .992 fielding percentage…earned district defensive player of the year as a junior after her second straight .990+ fielding percentage season with a .995 mark on the season…she also won the Klein Collins hitting award for the season with a .373 average at the plate…named to the Texas High School Coaches Association 6A team of the year this past season…member of the National Honor Society and a two-time academic all-district selection.
 
Daughter of Yahaira Santana and Juan Carlos Garcia Soto…has three siblings, one brother and two sisters…majoring in health and exercise science…plans to go to physical therapy school and open her own medial office and gym that helps trains and cares for athletes.


Grace McDonald – 3B – R/R – 5-4 – Whitehouse, Texas (Whitehouse HS) - @GraceAnnMcDona1
Two-time first-team all-district player at Whitehouse High School…two-way player that helped her team win the district title as a junior and reach the playoff all three years thus far…she was named district newcomer of the year following her freshman season and earned pitcher of the year as a junior…in her junior season McDonald went a perfect 16-0 in the circle for the Wildcats with a 2.40 ERA and 113 strikeouts while allowing just 29 walks while also hitting .424 at the plate with seven home runs and 42 RBI…so far in her career McDonald has a career batting average above .300 with more than 300 innings pitched…she is a member of the National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and will be an honor's graduate.
 
Daughter of Amy and Charles McDonald…has one sister…plans to major in accounting or business and potentially attend law school.


Ryley Nihart – RHP – R/R –  5-5 – Manvel, Texas (Manvel HS) - @RyleyNihart33
Three-year letter winner and three-time team MVP for Manvel softball…earned first-team all-district honors in each of the past two seasons along with an academic all-district honor as a junior…in her three prep seasons thus far Nihart has amassed more than 400 career strikeouts and thrown three no-hitters…she is also a member of the National Honor Society at Manvel HS.

Daughter of Kimberly and Dennis Nihart…majoring in health and human performance and wants to become a physical therapist


Peyton Peck – UTL – R/R – 5-5 – Northlake, Texas (Argyle HS) - @peytonp06
Three-time district champion and two-time regional quarterfinalist at Northlake's Argyle High School…helped her team to a combined 87-29 record over all 36-4 mark in district play over the past three seasons…as a freshman Peck broke the single-season record for RBIs in a year with 36 and in turn was named offensive player of the year…she is a three-time all-district player at first base and through her three prep seasons boasts a batting average over .340 with an OPS north of 1.000…Peck is also a member of the National Honor Society and a three-time recipient of academic all-district honors.
 
Daughter of Carrie and Scott Peck…plans to major in either business or psychology…wants to work with athletes on the mental side of the game and eventually work for an MLB or NFL team in that capacity…cousin Preston Plank plays baseball at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and cousins Olivia and Eli Rollen are swimmers at Oklahoma Christian.
