NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State tennis sophomore
Viktorie Wojcikova was named the Southland Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday as voted by the league's coaches and sports information directors.
Wojcikova was the tiebreak master in singles and doubles wins against Louisiana Tech, clinching both the doubles point and the match with her singles victory.
The Czech Republic native won the last two sets of a marathon match (5-7, 7-5, 6-4), facing multiple match points in the second set against Tech's Ilana Tetruashvili on court No. 5.
With the match tied 3-3, Wojcikova forced a third set and then broke a 4-4 third-set tie to clinch the team win against a 17-win Louisiana Tech squad.
The tandem of Wojcikova and Rozalie Dohnalova outlasted Tiffani Nash and Najah Dawson with a 7-6 doubles win, including a 7-5 tiebreaker.
Wojcikova finishes the regular season on an eight-match singles winning streak and 13-3 overall.
The SLC regular champion Lady Demons will attempt to add a tournament title to that stash starting Friday against No. 8 seed Southeastern at the UNO-hosted event.
