NATCHITOCHES – A promising 61 minutes of play for the Northwestern State soccer team was curbed by forces outside the Lady Demons' control.
NSU's (0-3-2) final non-conference match against Louisiana-Monroe (0-3) was called a no-contest at the 61
st minute following lightning delays.
Per NCAA rules, a match does not become official until 70 minutes of play. As a result, the match against ULM will not be recorded.
The first of two delays resulted in kickoff occurring at 7 p.m. The second came moments after a
Natalee Henry solo opportunity in the 60
th minute at the net deep inside the ULM back line, which resulted in a ULM save.
At the moment the match was stopped the second time, the Lady Demons led in total shot attempts (6), two of which were saved inside the frame. Henry led the Lady Demons with three shots and had both of NSU's shots on goal.
Senior goalkeeper
Acelya Aydogmus logged three saves for the Lady Demons.
NSU opens conference play Friday at home against incumbent Southland champions Southeastern Louisiana. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
